# Prepare SOL

### What is SOL?

SOL is the native cryptocurrency of the Solana blockchain, required for paying transaction fees and other use cases (such as staking to secure the network).

### **Transaction Fees on Solana:**

* Transaction fees on the Solana blockchain are paid using SOL. This means that as a user, whenever you want to initiate any type of on-chain operation, your wallet must have SOL.
* When you initiate a transaction on SlerfTools, you need SOL to pay for the transaction fees.

**Note:** 0.000000001 SOL = 1 lamport (one billionth of a SOL).
