🌿Metis Network Guide
🚀 About Metis Andromeda
Metis Andromeda is a Layer 2 scaling solution for Ethereum. Its defining feature is its economic independence: unlike other L2s, Metis uses its own native token, METIS, for Gas fees instead of ETH. This decoupling reduces reliance on Ethereum holdings and drives significant utility to the METIS token.
Technologically, Metis leverages MemoLabs for its Data Availability (DA) layer to drastically lower transaction costs. It also pioneered the Decentralized Sequencer, ensuring that network revenue is shared with community verifiers rather than a centralized operator. Furthermore, its Hybrid Rollup architecture combines the ease of use of Optimistic Rollups with the security and finality of Zero-Knowledge (ZK) proofs.
SlerfTools supports Metis. Access our full suite of tools (Token Launch, Multi-Sender, Wallet Mgmt) directly on the Metis network.

🎯 The Metis Advantage: Metis is the pioneer of the Decentralized Sequencer in the L2 landscape. It does not rely on a single official entity to batch transactions; instead, it is maintained by a pool of verifiers, offering superior censorship resistance and network resilience. Furthermore, using METIS as the Gas token provides the native asset with stronger economic utility compared to other L2s.
⚙️ Step 1: Network & RPC Configuration
⚠️ Important: Metis uses METIS as its native Gas token. Please strictly verify the Chain ID to ensure you are not connecting to the Goerli or Sepolia Testnets.

⛽️ Gas Fees & Optimization (METIS)
Metis is one of the rare Layer 2 solutions that does not use ETH for Gas. This unique economic design drives significant value capture to the METIS token.
1. Fee Profile
Standard Transactions: Paid in METIS. Interaction costs are extremely low, typically < $0.05.
Storage Optimization: Metis utilizes MemoLabs as a dedicated Data Availability (DA) layer. This avoids publishing expensive data directly to Ethereum Mainnet, drastically reducing Gas overhead.
2. How to obtain Gas (METIS)?
CEXs (Recommended): Major exchanges like Binance, OKX, and KuCoin support withdrawals to the Metis Andromeda Mainnet.
⚠️ CRITICAL WARNING: If you withdraw ETH to the Metis chain, you cannot use it to pay for transaction fees! You MUST withdraw METIS to transact.
Official Bridge: Supports bridging from Ethereum Mainnet. During the process, the bridge often provides a "Gas on Destination" option to swap a small portion of your ETH into METIS for immediate use.
Third-Party Bridges: We recommend Synapse or Stargate. These allow you to bridge assets (like USDC) from cheaper chains (BSC/Avalanche) and often include features to swap for Gas.
3. Cost-Saving Tips
Trust the DAC: Metis’s Data Availability Committee (DAC) ensures efficient verification. Unless network congestion is extreme, there is generally no need to manually increase the default Gas Price/Priority Fee.
📊 Essential Resources (Dev Resources)
⚠️ Important Note: The dominant stablecoins on Metis are "m." prefixed bridged assets. Please verify addresses carefully. Using non-standard versions may result in a lack of liquidity.

⚠️ Security Alert: Always cross-verify contract addresses through official channels (such as CoinGecko or official docs). Be vigilant against phishing websites and fake token contracts.

❓ Metis Network Specific FAQ
I have ETH in my wallet. Why can't I send transactions?
This is the most common issue for new users.
Gas Token: Unlike most L2s (Arbitrum/Optimism), Metis uses METIS tokens for Gas, not ETH.
ETH Status: On this network, ETH is merely a standard ERC20 utility token (often labeled
m.ETH).Solution: You must hold a small amount of METIS to initiate any transaction. You can withdraw METIS directly from a CEX (like OKX or KuCoin) or use a bridge like Synapse that offers "Gas Refuel" features.
What is the "Decentralized Sequencer" and why does it matter?
It is about Security and Yield.
Most L2s rely on a single, centralized sequencer, creating a theoretical "Single Point of Failure."
Metis has implemented a Sequencer Pool, allowing multiple nodes to participate in block ordering.
Impact: For you, this means a safer network with reduced downtime risk. It also enables the community to stake METIS to secure the network and earn protocol revenue (Liquid Staking).
Why is the USDC here called "m.USDC"?
It indicates the asset source.
The "
m." prefix signifies assets bridged from Ethereum Mainnet via the Official Metis Bridge.Usage: Currently, the vast majority of DEX liquidity (e.g., on Hermes or NetSwap) is paired with
m.USDCandm.USDT.Warning: Please ensure you use the contract addresses provided in the Resource List to avoid fragmentation.
Why does Metis use a "Hybrid Rollup" architecture?
To get the best of both worlds.
While Metis launched as an Optimistic Rollup, it is actively transitioning to a Hybrid model.
This combines the ease of Optimistic execution with the Fast Finality and superior security of Zero-Knowledge (ZK) Proofs.
